A Record of Accomplishments in Elmwood Park

In my 24 years on the Village Board, members and administrative personnel have changed from time to time. However, working together and with the spirit of cooperation, I was instrumental in initiating and implementing many programs, services, and projects, moving the Village forward. The major highlights of my tenure are as follows:

PUBLIC SAFETY

  • “Community Policing” and Night Watch Program
  • 24-Hour Surveillance Cameras in Parks and Train Station
  • Purchase of State-of-the-Art Ambulance and Aerial Ladder Fire Truck
  • Constructed New Public Safety Building (Police and Fire station on Fullerton)

PUBLIC WORKS

  • Initiated and implemented the Tax Increment Financing Program (TIF district) to redevelop Grand and Harlem, bringing in Circuit City and then Caputo’s Market
  • Amended zoning and building codes to “crackdown” on overcrowding due to illegal basement and attic apartments
  • Created the apartment registration and property transfer inspection programs
  • Expanded code administration and enforcement programs
  • Developed fairer water billing and consumption monitoring system
  • Flood Relief Mitigation sewer and drainage project and program

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Early Childhood Development Center
  • Constructed a new modern library
  • Constructed LaFrambois Senior Social Center
  • Family-themed programs such as Summer Concerts, 4th of July, and holiday celebrations

IMPROVED PARKS AND RECREATION

  • Constructed Central, John Mills, Torpe, Fullerton, and the new Centennial Parks
  • Partnered with Unit District 401 to construct the new sports turf football field and to renovate the high school auditorium and grounds
  • Renovated the Recreation Center and expanded programs for all age groups
  • Constructed the Aquatic Center
  • Renovated Kiddie Korale, Bambi, and Triangle Playgrounds
  • Established a community bike route
  • Skate park and rink
